Project.By. Zine: Issue 1

Project.By. Zine: Issue 1

Carnaval de Madrid 2025

Project.By., a zine dedicated to documentary photography, is intended to be for those self-contained project that sit in photographer's archives not seeing the light of day. Perhaps too big for a little zine, but too small for a book, but definitely worth showing to an audience.

Issue 1 is dedicated to the work of the zine's founder, Maria Maza. Part one of the zine is dedicated to events on and around Matadero during Carnival in Madrid, part two of the zine delving into the "Burial of the Sardine" ritual that closes Madrid's five day celebrations.

In addition to developing her own long term personal projects, she has worked on commissions for Amber and Newcastle City Council, as well as contributed to Amber Education's ongoing programme of photography education in primary schools. Maria's passion for documentary photography led her to create Seen.By. in 2023, a photography zine, to promote and celebrate the medium and its practitioners.
