A S Neill and Summerhill School, 1967

A S Neill and Summerhill School, 1967

John Walmsley

Softback zine documenting AS Neill and Summerhill School, 1967, by John Walmsley.

Between 1965-1968, John studied photojournalism at Guildford School of Art. During that time he learned of Summerhill, an alternative school with experimental teaching methods that pioneered the notion of "free-range" environments for kids. John visited the school many times, eventually forming a 50+ year association with the school.

"I hitched there on my first trip and found a floor to stay on. At the school, I immediately felt at home and found everyone straightforward, interested and interesting. I fitted in and photographed life as it went on." - John Walmsley
