Quayside
£3.00The idea for the ‘Newcastle-Quayside’ project emerged in 1979 in order to document Quayside and generate interest in the area, stimulating debates about its future. The changes had been radical during the 60s and even before when traditional industries declined and with them the whole commercial focus of the Quayside. However, in spite of the fact that the life has been slowly drained from Quayside especially after the run down of the coal industry, the area still generates a feeling of loyalty. People who work there often do so because they like it and a ‘quaysider’ is seen as a description for someone who works or lives in this special environment.
